Adopting New Technology, Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

I was reading an article today by JD Moore entitled 5 Things Howard Stern Can Teach You About Small Business Marketing on New York News Today It contained many good points but what I found most important was in the section about embracing technology. JD said " Sometimes it takes stepping outside your comfort area and getting some education."

When you think about it, this is true about most anything new. Whether you are talking about new business technlogy, traveling somewhere you have never been before or trying anything new. The thing about technology is that while you can put off most new adventures in your life, putting off the adoption of new technology can mean the eventual end of your business.

The good news is that small business owners like you are getting more aggresive in adopting new technology. In a recent study “SMB Technology Adoption Trends, commision by Comp TIA an indutry group.” The study reported that "Small and medium-sized businesses across the United States are increasingly relying on new IT solutions to strengthen their operational, marketing and customer engagement activities."

It also reports that business owners "are looking for technology solutions that “deliver immediate payback in terms of minimum disruption of business continuity and seamless integration with existing solutions.”

Some of the technogies that businesses are most interested in include:
The bottom line is this. As a business owner or manager you have a lot to gain by being open to, exploring and learning about these technologies. On the other hand your technology provider has the responsibility to deliver solutions that really work and you have the right to demand this. Together you should determine the ROI and colaborate to make the adoption of these soltions work.

  1. That's right. Businesses should try these out. It's going to take a while to learn it, but it's going to be useful in the long run. Look at social media; almost everyone in the world uses it, unlike before when it was only the Internet people gathering around these social media sites. Stepping out of your comfort zone is a good idea, in my opinion. For example, an accountant can always do the accounting the old fashioned way, right? Why not try accounting software like the Sage MAS 200? I am an accountant, too. I have relied on calculations using only my calculator for months now, then I found a software series called Peachtree Complete Accounting. I've been using it ever since.
